An Overview of Sundance Ski Resort, Utah
In 1969, Robert Redford purchased a piece of land to create a community dedicated to art, nature, and culture. That area, Sundance, is now one of the premiere mountain experiences in the nation.
The resort features 42 runs, which cover 450 acres of skiable terrain and are set against the majestic backdrop of 12,000-foot Timpanogos Mountain. Sundance receives roughly 300 inches of snowfall each year, and the ski season typically lasts from December to April.
Resort Passes
Sundance ski area offers three ways to ride: lift tickets, the S-Card, and season passes.
Lift tickets offer the best value for those who only plan to visit the resort once or twice a year. Skiers can purchase lift tickets online, pick them up at the ticket window, and renew them online with subsequent visits.
S-Cards are the best value for those planning to visit Sundance 2-5 times a year. S-Cards cost $99 for adults and $59 for children. The first visit is included with the card price, and subsequent visits are auto-charged when you ski through the gates.
Season passes are the most flexible option for skiing Sundance. With a season pass, skiers get all the benefits of an S-Card as well as access to the Nordic Center, summer scenic lift rides, and a UTA pass.
Sundance’s RFID technology allows you to skip ticket lines and ski directly to the lift without messing with gloves, pockets, or your phone. Guests can leave their lift ticket, S-Card, or season pass in their pocket, ski through the gates, and hit the slopes!
Night Skiing
Night skiing is an incredible way to see the mountain and experience Sundance in a new light. The resort offers night skiing from 4:30-9:00 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Most of the front mountain is open, including runs like Top Gun, Montoya, Stampede, and Maverick.
The 2022-23 night skiing season begins December 25th, and, for the first time, this year the Terrain Park will remain open in the evening.
Sundance Ski Area Terrain Park
The Terrain Park includes freestyle features and terrain for skiers of every level. Riders can access the park from the Outlaw Trail Run and should read through the safety guide before attempting any jumps or tricks.
Sundance Ski Lessons
Sundance’s acclaimed PSIA/AASI Ski and Snowboard School is the ideal environment for beginners and experts alike to take their skills to the next level.
Group lessons are available to children and adults of all skill levels. Lesson lengths range from 2.5 to 5 hours, and participants can purchase discounted lift tickets if they don’t have a season pass.
Private and semi-private lessons are popular among skiers who benefit from one-on-one coaching. Semi-private lessons include groups of 2-4 skiers, such as families who prefer to stay together.
Sundance Ski Rentals
The Sundance Mountain Outfitters is the one-stop shop for all recreation needs, including equipment rentals and demos. Rental options vary depending on age and experience level. Leashes and ski breaks are required and included in each package, and all rentals are available at the Mountain Outfitters at the base of the resort.
Sundance Ski Resort Parking
Sundance is incorporating paid parking into existing lots this winter to encourage carpooling. Paid parking will support the resort’s conservation efforts and allow as many guests as possible to enjoy skiing on peak days.
Paid parking prices vary based on lot location and day. Parking is typically more expensive on busier days, such as weekends and holidays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lots A, C, D, and E have free parking all day on weekdays, after 2 p.m. on weekends or any day for those who carpool with four or more guests.
Visitors can use TAP N SKI for quick parking. Sundance has solar-powered payment stations at every parking lot that allow guests to pay by scanning the QR code or downloading the TAP N SKI app.
Sundance Resort Lodging
It wouldn’t be a complete ski resort experience without spending a few nights at a luxurious resort lodge. Lodging can be expensive, but nothing quite matches the feeling of staying in a warm and homey environment in the middle of a snowy mountain range. Rooms and Suites
Sundance has five room and suite options for single guests and small parties. With the room fee, visitors also get access to a daily guided hike, on-site transportation, wellness classes, a 24-hour fitness center, and concierge services.
The Standard Room features a bedroom and bathroom. It’s simple, beautiful, and ideal for those who prefer to spend most of their time on the slopes.
The Studio Room has a larger bedroom for guests seeking coziness and elegance during their stay. The room includes a fireplace, kitchenette, and a deck or patio.
The Sundance Suite is the most affordable suite option available, with more room for an extra guest or extended stay.
The Mountain Suite features a full-size kitchen, private master bedroom, and living room. This suite sleeps 2-4 people and can bundle with adjacent rooms to create multi-bedroom cottages.
The Mountain Loft is the largest room at Sundance, with wide open spaces and multiple furnished sleeping spaces. Complete features include a full-size kitchen, private master bedroom, living room, sleeper sofa, and sleeping loft.
Mountain Homes
Sundance also offers standalone mountain homes for groups or families who prefer private lodging. With beautiful surrounding views, quiet locations, and log cabin furnishings, here are our three favorite mountain home lodges.
Mountainview is a solitary three-bedroom cabin for those seeking solitude and unparalleled mountain vistas. The cabin includes a hot tub, fireplace, walk-around deck, and laundry room.
Dream Catcher is the definition of cozy lodging. This cabin is tucked into the mountainside and features traditional western architecture, lots of natural light, a hot tub, a full kitchen, a dining area, and a living room.
Timp Ridge is one of Sundance’s largest mountain homes. The three-story cabin features multiple living areas, kitchens, game rooms, and outdoor space for family gatherings and activities. Guests will also enjoy the hot tub, fireplaces, and open-concept seating rooms. Staying at Timp Ridge is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Restaurants Near Sundance, Utah
The community at Sundance believes that food is art. The resort has multiple dining options, from exotic cuisine to delicious homey meals. Here are a few must-visits during your next trip.
Tree Room was the first building Robert Redford built in 1970. It was constructed around an actual tree which still is the focal point of the restaurant. Also is highlighted by beautiful authentic Native American art, pottery and kachina dolls from his private collection. One of the top restaurants in Utah, Forbes 4 star. Amazing Mountain cuisine with the most requested dish being the Tree Room Pepper Steak which has never left the menu.
Foundry Grill is centered around fire, an element that urges people to gather. The Grill serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with a menu filled with hearty, down-home seasonal flavors. Some favorites are the Brussel Sprouts and Dirty Fries as starters. Dinner entrees are unique and meant to be shared with the table as guests soak up the cozy and relaxed atmosphere of the room.
The Lookout is the newest restaurant to the resort completed in the beginning of 2022. Serves guests all winter and on select weekends in the summer. Casual burgers, salads and pizza. Some of the favorites are Loaded tots and the Brisket Quesadilla. Amazing views of Mount Timpanogos from the restaurant complement the décor and historic photographs of the resort.
