Dear Valued Customer,

We recently received a few isolated reports of our cinch buckles breaking under loads less than the 400 lbs. safety rating. We take this issue seriously and therefore, despite the small number of reported failures, we have decided to replace the affected part for all of our affected customers. 

We are collaborating with the U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to implement a corrective action plan regarding the cinch buckle. You will be notified shortly on the full process we are taking to correct the problem.

This issue only affects Outpost I and II hammocks and Litespeed suspension kits sold from June 20, 2016 through August 15, 2016. Our records indicate that your hammock cinch buckles may be affected.  Failure of the cinch buckle during use could create a fall hazard and result in possible injury.  Please stop using your hammock cinch buckles immediately.  

We apologize for the inconvenience.  However, safety and reliability are our highest priorities. That is why our hammocks are tested to 1,000 lbs. despite only being rated for 400 lbs. Even though the number of substandard buckles is very small, we would rather replace all of the cinch buckles sold after June 20th than risk our customers having a buckle break on them. We thank you in advance for your patience while we resolve this issue.

Why is Wildhorn conducting this recall?

  • We’ve had three reported cases in which our cinch buckles failed at under the 400lbs safety rating. We want to ensure the safety of our customers by replacing suspect buckles.

What do I need to do to get my new buckles?

  • No action is needed by the customer. We will send out new buckles to the same ship-to address as you placed your order with. If you need us to ship to a different address, please let us know by contacting us at the email address or toll-free number listed above.

How can I tell if my Outpost Hammock or Litespeed Suspension Kit is affected by the recall?

  • If you purchased an Outpost I or II hammock or a Litespeed suspension kit on or after June 20, 2016 you are affected. To determine your purchase date you may look up your order in your Amazon account or see the date on your email order confirmation if you ordered from wildhornoutfitters.com .
 How can I send my defective buckles back?
  • A prepaid mailer will be included with your new buckles. By mailing your old buckles back you will also get a 20% coupon code to use when we launch our bug net and rain fly for the Outpost Series Hammocks (can be used with most hammock systems).

What is the problem with my Outpost Hammock or Litespeed suspension system?

  • The buckles in the suspect date range may have an embrittlement issue. While this doesn’t guarantee failure under loads less than 400lbs, it introduces the possibility. For this reason, we want to be safe and give everyone buckles that will not fail under stress loads less than what we’ve tested.

My hammock or Litespeed suspension appears to be operating okay. Can I continue to use it? 

  • Even though your buckles appear to be safe, we are asking all customers to immediately stop using the buckles and participate in the recall by returning the buckles to us in a prepaid envelope that we will send out. Free replacement buckles will automatically be sent out. 

 How long will it take for me to receive the replacement?

  • Please allow 3-4 weeks to receive the new buckles. We apologize for any inconvenience and assure you we are working as quickly as possible to replace your buckles.

How hard is it to install the new buckles on my hammock? 

  • We will include complete instructions with the new buckles as well as a telephone number to call if you have questions about the repair. The repair is simple and does not require any tools and will take less than 5 minutes. A link to a video will also be included with your new buckles showing you step by step instructions to replace them.
