Same theme every time: forces, friction, alignment, and a little redundancy when things get spicy.

2) Confirm you have a solid lower attachment point

3) Do the heel-clearance test (especially with bigger shoes)

Square it up (remove pre-twist). Stand behind the bike and look. Is the pannier vertical and naturally close to the rack, or is it leaning outward? If it’s twisted at rest, bumps will keep prying at the connection.

Lock in the lower attachment. This is the anti-sway anchor. Snug it so the pannier can’t rotate forward/back. Then do a quick “doorknob test”: grab the bag and try to twist it. You want stubborn resistance, not a casual swing.

Fix: carefully re-seat the hooks and add a simple backup strap on rowdy routes.
The 15-second pre-ride check
