FAQ -

  • Q:

What should I look for in snowshoes?

    A:

You’ll look for different features in snowshoes depending on the types of activity you expect to participate in. For example, if you expect to do lots of backcountry, deep-powder hiking you’ll want to find a pair of snowshoes that are extremely lightweight, durable and cold-resistant. You’ll also want to consider your snowshoe size. Most adult snowshoes come in a 22” and 28”.

  • Q:

How do I choose my snowshoe size?

    A:

Adult snowshoes come in 22” and 28” sizes. Your ideal snowshoe will depend on your weight. 22” models are ideal for an adult between 80 and 160 lbs while 28” snowshoes are designed for an adult between 160 and 235 lbs.

  • Q:

What should I wear to go snowshoeing?

    A:

Snowshoeing is hard work. Layering is essential so you can control your body temps. It's common to only have one layer on during the peak of the hike, only to be freezing when you stop too long. Don't use cotton layers and be sure you are prepared for the fluctuations.

  • Q:

Do I need poles to snowshoe?

    A:

Poles are usually helpful during a snowshoe outing. When you are walking through deep snow, poles can help you to stay on balance, especially coming down slopes. They can also help give you an extra push while climbing up hills.
